Macro Extension Tubes

Published on April 24, 2011
I have been wanting to get a Macro Lens for my 550d for a while now, but because they are just a little expensive and I am not very sure how much I am going to use a Macro Lens if I were to actually buy one, I did a little research on YouTube for Macro Extension Tubes.

I first heard about the extension tubes while watch a Karl Taylor DVD called “Advanced Digital SLR Photography”, where he mentioned that there is no great need to invest in an expensive Macro Lens, unless that is something you would use ALL THE TIME! He then went on to suggest investing in the Macro Extension Tubes that you can pick up on eBay for super cheap.

I found these on eBay for only £9.00, including shipping to Malta! They do not have AF Chips in them, so there I need to take all my pics in Manual Focus, but it’s okay, because that way I am able to focus on what I want to focus on. There are others that have the ability to keep the Auto Focus available, but they are slightly more expensive and I really do not see the point.
They are extremely easy to operate and they come in many shapes and sizes, but be sure to get the correct one that will fit your specific type of DSLR as well as lens.
All you need to do is fit the adapter onto where your lens would normally click onto your DSLR body and then fix your lens onto the correct extension tube.
There are 3 tubes available which can be changed to give you various distances from your subject. If you have all three tubes on, you can get right up to your subject and you will get the most intricate detail of a very specific area. Then, if you only have the first tube on, you can get a little more of your subject into the picture.
I tested the lenses out today and this is what I got:

There will be a full video tutorial coming on how to use these Macro Extension Tubes in the future, so keep an eye on my blog. I’m also working on a YouTube channel that will be dedicated to my site and when it is ready, I will let you know.
Enjoy and Happy Easter!

    >I saw the photos you took on the GF's blog, so had to hop-foot it over to take a look! What a difference these extension tubes make. The detail is incredible. The colours are also amazing. Just wanted to say aswell, that I am following you, but for some reason I'm not showing up on your list of followers. On my blogger, you are showing as having me as a follower, but not on yours, so apologies for that :(

    >@GawgusThings – That is so super weird… I don't know what is causing that. I wish I knew?

Thanks for the comment though and I will check into this.

    >@Shanah – Me too! I should really do more Macros shoots, but it is difficult to find areas for what I have in mind, in Malta. Perhaps when I am back in South Africa again :-)
