It’s the start of a new week and I’m almost at the end of the “Get Your Sexy On” interviews with the guy at the 360 Specialized Training Gym, but the series certainly wouldn’t be complete without introducing you to one of the gym’s newest trainers, Gert Gagiano.
Gert is a newbie to Cape Town because he has been living in the North of our country on a farm just outside of Upington and you couldn’t find a nicer guy, so whatever they have in the water there, it makes people super friendly and awesome. Despite that though, he is a pretty ambitious guy and I see him going places in our fair city!
Enough with all the Jibber Jabber (said in my best Mr. T voice), it’s time to Get Your Sexy On with Gert “Gagi” Gagiano!
Mike: Where in this awesome country of ours are you from??
Gert: Born and raised just outside Upington on our farm! People from Cape Town seem to have no clue where in the world Upington is though…. (Mike: Haha, I won’t lie, I had to Google it…)
Mike: How did land yourself into the Fitness industry?
Gert: From a very young age I always had a huge love for sports! I engaged in literally every spoting activity I could at primary school and at age 13 I represented my province in various sporting codes including rugby, athletics and cricket! A big achievement for myself was winning the gold medal at the South African games in 2003 competing in 80m hurdles! In highschool I decided to dedicate my time to rugby where it went very well! After school I decided to go into the sportcience direction and ended up in the University at Stellenbosch. Fitness has always been a big part of my life, I literally get depressed when not exercising! (Mike: Congrats on provincial colors dude and especially for the gold medal my man!!! That is always an awesome achievement)
Mike: I know you have been studying in Stellenbosch, so what are your qualifications?
Gert: In 2 months time I will be a qualified Sport Scientist graduating from the University of Stellenbosch. To date I completed various courses and is a specialized in coaching and fitness/conditioning. (Mike: So what you are saying is that you know your stuff!! Awesome)
Mike: What made you choose 360 Specialized Training as your choice of a place to work?
Gert: Mr Swart introduced me to this spectacular way of training at Stellenbosch. Soon after I scheduled a meeting with Chris to talk about the future, it was only a matter of time for me jump aboard! Since starting here I’ve never doubt that this what we’ve got here is the future of fitness! (Mike: Too true, this is the future of fitness!)
Mike: Do you have an official position at the 360 Specialized Training Gym?
Gert: I am currently one of the personal trainers and is currently in charge of the Monday night WARRIOR WORKOUT!!
Mike: What do you specialize in in terms of fitness and others stuff at 360 Specialized Training Gym?
Gert: I specialize in:
- Fitness and conditioning
- Muscular imbalances
Mike: Do you have a choice in tunes that you prefer?
Gert: I’m generally open to anything, but have to say I love my stukkie Afrikaans :) (Mike: Nothing wrong with Afrikaans tunes and to be honest, I’m a huge fan of some of South Africa’s finest Afrikaans Rock groups myself!)
Mike: I’m keen to see how much Afrikaans music you have on your iPod. Load it up and let me know what your last 5 tracks played are?
Gert: Wilder as die wildtuin (Heuwels Fantasies) | Kopskudkinders (Tuindwergies) | I run to you (Lady Antebellum) | Waar die hel uitkom (Heuwels Fantasties) | Buitenste ruim (Heuwels Fantasties)… Crazy hey?? (Mike: Die Heuwels Fantasties are probably my FAVE Afrikaans band! Nice work there man!)
Mike: Do you have a power song?
Gert: Give me a guitar and I’ll show you! (Mike: Remind me to bring my guitar to the gym next time so we can jam and I can hear this power song!)
Mike: Have you got any Life Motto’s that you live by?
Gert: “Never back down” I know it’s also a movie title but I love it!!
Mike: When was the one and only Gagi brought into this world?
Gert: I was born on the 15 January 1990.
Mike: I am sure I know the answer to this already, but are you a Beer a Whiskey drinker?
Gert: BEEEEEERRRRRR!! (Mike: As I suspected! LoL! Nothing better than an ice cold Beer!)
Mike: How many times a week are you in the gym training yourself?
Gert: Normally 5 times, but with these people around there is no limit if you know what I mean! (Mike: Haha, I’m with you 1o0% my man)
Mike: Do you prefer any specific type of exercise like, Cardio, Weight Training, Body Weight Training etc?
Gert: Certainly weight training + Body wieght! Not a big fan of cardio! (Mike: I’m going to make it my mission to change that thinking! Cardio is by far my fave!)
Mike: I know there is always that one meal that you can’t resist and it certainly can’t be part of your daily diet plan, so if you were to cheat, what would your cheat meal be?
Gert: A piece of fried chicken fillet + fries at The DROS!!
Mike: How do you like your Protein Shakes, in Chocolate, Strawberry or Vanilla?
Gert: Chocolate my man!! Aways!
Mike: What is your favourite class to take as the instructor at the 360 Specialized Training gym?
Gert: You take a guess?? (Mike: Haha, I’ll go with the Warrior Workout where you get to make people sweat like they’ve never done so before!)
Mike: Why do you think people around our awesome city should train at 360 Specialized Training?
Gert: Because “There is no substitude for hard work” and “Strong is the new skinny”
Mike: If you were to go running, where would people generally find you, on the road or on a trail?
Gert: TRAIL!! (Mike: Ahhh! So you do enjoy a little Cardio then! I’m keen to hit a trail with you dude!)
Mike: Tell me something that not many people know about you?
Gert: This past Saturday was my 2nd year anniversary with my GF!! WOW! (Mike: That is impressive!! Congrats on that man, I’m super happy for both of you. Time to pop the question soon then HaHa!)
Mike: If people would like to follow you on Twitter, where can they find you?
Gert: If people would like to follow me on Twitter, they can look for @Gagi360
