Get Your Sexy On with Jarred “J-Plug” Plùg

Published on August 15, 2012

It’s that time of the week again and today I bring you the man that is known to some as Jarred, but to others he goes by J-Man, J-Plug or even Clark Kent (must me those awesome specs), but either way today I have the next “Get Your Sexy On” interview with Jarred Plùg!

Jarred grew up on the coastline of good old Durbs where his life consisted of sport, mates and (as all Durban boys do) trying to get in as much surfing possible on a daily basis! Since meeting him at the 360 Specialized Training Gym, I know that I have, as well many others, have had their bodies pushed to their limits, but on top of him being awesome in the gym, he is super focused and awesome outside of the gym too.

I can go on all day about what a nice guy Jarred is, but for now, it’s time for Cape Town and the rest of South Africa to “Get Your Sexy On” with Jarred “J-Plug” Plùg.

JarredOriginally from Durban… Bru.

Mike: How did you get into the world of fitness?

JarredMade my first dive pass leaving my mothers womb, since then I’ve been grown up trying my hand at every sport I could which shaped my passion for health and fitness. (Mike: LoL, I just spat my coffee out of my mouth reading this! Too damn funny)

Mike: Did you study anything after school to get you to the level you are at now?

Mike: How did you get to decide that 360 Specialized Training was the gym for you?

JarredA friend of mine who knew the goals I had with regards to fitness and impacting the industry recommended I go have a chat with Chris Walsh. One conversation with Chris, a training session later  and I knew I’d found what I was looking for. Thanks Darren Swanepoel. (Mike: I’m with you on that! From the moment I stepped foot into the 360 Specialized Training Gym, I knew I was where I wanted to be to get ripped)

Mike: Do you have an official position at 360 Specialized Training Gym?

JarredI am officially the new guy so I am what ever I get told to be. Jokes aside, I’m a trainer and currently learning the systems of 360 to be of greater value as the gym and brand grows. (Mike: So have you stolen bathroom cleaning duty then? Haha)

Mike: What do you specialize in at the 360 Specialized Training Gym other than making people sweat like there is no tomorrow?

JarredWhat do I specialize in? Is this the part that we market ourselves? Fat loss, fat loss, fat loss. Strength & conditioning. Fat loss. Correcting postural deviations & muscle imbalance. Fat loss. (Mike: LoL! Something like that, but fair enough, you are indeed the one to talk to about fat loss then! Ladies and Gents, if you wanna lose weight, chat to Jarred… He is your man!!)

Mike: What kind of Music are you into?

JarredAny band influenced by Robert Johnson and/or Led Zeppelin. (Mike: Nice, I like!! Old School is still New School in my mind!)

Mike: Grab your iPod, I’m keen to see what the last 5 tracks played are.

Jarred: (1) Little black submarines – Black Keys (Stairway to heaven of 2012) | (2) Are you gonna be my girl – Jet | (3) Hallelujah – Leonard Cohen | (4) Lover, you should have come over – Jeff Buckly (5) Start me up – Rolling Stones

Mike: Everyone has that one song that makes them want to get up and go exercise, no matter what! What is your power song?

JarredFeeling good – Muse

Mike: Do you have a Motto in Life?

JarredI actually have 2 motos: (1) The pain of regret far out weighs the pain of discipline | (2) Just go for it, learn from your mistakes, and keep going. (Mike: One word man, Power!)

Mike: When were you born, I’m keen to see what star sign you are?

Jarred: I was born on the 28th of September, so I am a Libra (Mike: I knew there was something awesome about you that I couldn’t put my finger on! Librans = The best people in the world Haha)

Mike: Choose your poison… Beer or Whiskey?

JarredWhisky (Mothers Milk)

Mike: How many times a week are you in the gym training yourself?

Jarred: I train myself 5-6 times a week! (Mike: I suppose it was a stupid question because you can totally see it! Good job man!)

MikeDo you have a favourite type of exercise e.g. Cardio, Weight Training, Body Weight Training?

JarredI enjoy training that requires strength from all area’s/types of training, however I have an inclination towards body weight training.

MikeAs a trainer, I’m sure you only eat the healthy way, but if you were to have a cheat meal, what would it be?

JarredCheat meal. Bunny chowMy laanie (Mike: HaHa!! I suppose growing up in Durbs, Bunny Chow was part of your staple diet growing up! I suddenly have this craving for a Bunny Chow…)

Mike: Which would you choose of these when it comes to Protein Shakes, Chocolate, Strawberry or Vanilla?

JarredWhey protein – Chocolate, taste better, seems to mix better too.

MikeDo you have a favourite class to instruct at the 360 Specialized Training gym and why?

Jarred6am Kettle bells on a Monday. Starting the week off with balls of steel. (Mike: LoL! I can’t wait to hit up my first KB class with you bright and early on a Monday!!)

MikeWhy should the people of Cape Town, or visiting the mother city choose 360 Specialized Training Gym as the gym of choice?

JarredI’ve trained and worked at a wide variety of gyms moving back and forth between here and Durban. I’ve never experienced a training environment where trainers are so focused on results for their clients and themselves, where clients don’t want to leave because the energy and community is so potent and lastly an environment where the strongest, fittest guys and girls are the most helpful. Until you pull in for a session at 360 you really don’t know what your missing out on. (Mike: 100% true and couldn’t have been said any better! You guys are all pretty addictive over there and the energy in the gym is always awesome!)

Mike: Where would I find you if you were out running, on the road or out beating up a trail?

JarredTrail running…our roads are just too full of potholes. (Mike: You’ve obviously never been to Malta. LoL, their roads are worse than Zimbabwe! But in all seriousness, I really need to get onto a trail with you! I’d be keen to push myself to keep up!)

Mike: Tell me something that not many people know about you?

Jarred: Something about me no one knows? Its taken me roughly 20min to answer this particular question. I have 2 birth certificates, the first one with the surname Tyson, the 2nd and current one, Plu’g. Try going un-noticed with that. (Mike: I’m thinking travelling to places like the USA more than likely include a free cavity search each time? Haha! Pretty awesome and interesting though!)

Mike: If people would like to follow you on Twitter, where can they find you?

Jarred: Yeah I am on Twitter and if people would like to follow me, they can Follow @Jarred_360
